Spot is currently looking for smart entrepreneurial individuals with quantitative backgrounds to join its Financial Engineering team. Our trading environment is one of intense and dynamic interaction between traders and analysts that encourages innovation to optimize all aspects of trading and research.

Members of the Financial Engineering team have diverse backgrounds in physics, economics, mathematics, and engineering. Spot believes that this diversity helps to solve problems more quickly as well as assuring multiple viewpoints are considered when making decisions. Spot is committed to ongoing career development and has several programs to encourage learning new skills. On Fridays the team gets together to discuss journal articles and academic papers to learn from one another as well as consider how academic research can be put to use in a practical setting.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the Trading team to identify and formalize quantitative problems relating to option valuation, hedging, and risk management
• Design, develop and implement mathematical models to support Spots proprietary trading business
• Integrate successful solutions into production-quality software components
• Work with members of the Research team to translate qualitative insights into quantitative values to assist traders in making evaluations
 

Skills and Qualities

• Graduate degree in science, math, engineering, finance or statistics required
• Strong background in Stochastic processes, optimal control, partial differential equations, time series analysis and statistics
• Solid theoretical and practical understanding of financial modeling, derivatives valuation, risk management, and econometrics
• Experience within the trading or finance industry preferred
• Strong software engineering, object-oriented design, and C/C++ development skills required
• Experience with Matlab, R, S-Plus, Perl (or other scripting languages) and Excel

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work and communicate effectively with a diverse team of traders, developers and analysts.
