Trading Systems Infrastructure Engineer - Chicago IL

The Trading Systems Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for and actively engaged in the engineering, implementation and maintenance of Trading systems Infrastructure and Networks. This person will be engaged in monitoring and troubleshooting the company's equity and options trading system, algorithms and order routing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring electronic trading systems and server side software to ensure systems are working.
  • Identifying, troubleshooting and responding to emergency situations impacting live trading.
  • Researching latent orders and liaising with clients, traders and execution venues.
  • Escalating problems pro-actively and ensure all stakeholders are kept aware of issues and their development.
  • Collecting and reporting errors and improvements to appropriate teams.
  • Participating in application releases, from development, testing and deployment into production.
  • Working with business, developers and quality control teams to resolve and document issues.
  • Creating and maintaining a knowledge base, support scripts, documentation and procedures.
  • Implement vision of and continually pursuing superior application performance and optimization.
  • Actively participate in the resolution of complex technical problems.
  • Monitor the Trading systems used by Spot to facilitate low latency electronic trading.
  • Act as an escalation point for the Operations in resolving trading application related incidents.
  • Work with trading groups and developers to resolve intra-day technology issues.
  • Interact with various exchanges to resolve technical issues.
  • Learn, install, and troubleshoot Spots proprietary trading applications.
  • Work with internal development groups to support development initiatives.
  • Work with senior systems engineers to test, debug, and deploy software solutions.
  • Document system/infrastructure changes and additions.
  • Responsible for archiving important regulatory/compliance data.
  • Actively involved in overall application architecture design and implementation
  • Contributes to technology's efforts to automate processes, monitor systems and improve software management.
     

Skills and Qualities

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience supporting Equity/Option/Futures technology operations. High volume desk experience a plus.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, and strong critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Strong knowledge of networking and debugging connectivity issue.
  • Strong communication skills and previous interaction with developers a plus.
  • Solid understanding of the functions of the capital markets, including beginning of day, execution, clearing, and settlement/expiration/assignment.
  • Experience supporting Exchange API*s, working knowledge of the FIX protocol.
  • Understanding of equity algorithmic trading, routing engines, trade execution and market data applications.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in scripting, or experience with C++ or Perl with ability to write simple queries against SQL databases.
  • 4+ years working in a Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document processes.
  • Self motivated, self starter with the ability to follow directions and complete tasks with little supervision and the ability to effectively multi-task.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work in and contribute in a team environment.
  • Strong experience in UNIX environments (especially Linux) will be a huge plus.
  • Very strong troubleshooting, debugging, and analysis skills.
  • In-depth experience with network technologies such as TCP/IP and Multicast.
  • Self motivated with strong critical thinking skills and inquisitive mind with a strong desire to learn and excel.
